Buckle up – let’s go for a ride!

Hold on tight, I’m in the driver’s seat and of course you’re guaranteed a fashion fix. We’re going for a spin through Bill Richardson Transport World in Invercargill, New Zealand!
2. Invercargill

It opened in 2015 and is the largest private automotive museum of its type in the world. First up, I’m not a car fan – not one bit, I don’t even own one. I enjoy a modern inner city Melbourne lifestyle of catching Uber and Public Transport.

One of the sheds on display.

So, I was actually quite surprised how much I enjoyed visiting Transport World that I had to report and snap my experience. Plus, there was some over-the-top and fabulous fashion on display!

Invercargill 7

An entire level was dedicated to Southland’s FibreOctave Wearable Art and Musical Extravaganza. The designs on display are handcrafted from new, recycled, reinvented and couture materials.  FibreOctave is an annual spectacle of colour and creativity with the next event on 9 June 2017.

Invercargill 6

Now back to the cars, the collection was massive, to be honest I was expecting a room full of maybe 30 cars. But far out, there were sheds (as they call them) full of so many styles. What really caught my eye was the immaculate condition of these vehicles, it made for a slick automobile history lesson.

3. Invercargill

It’s an impressive collection with hundreds of motor vehicles and petrol pumps on display throughout the 15,000 square metres. It was the quirky details that really made this a visit worthwhile as even the toilets were on theme with mini petrol pumps as taps for some of the wash basins.

Invercargill 8

The retro Kombi section was my favourite that made me want to grab some friends, hit the highway and go on a crazy road trip!

5. Invercargill

Absolutely worth a visit!

Showroom launch!

It was a fabulous time at the Melbourne Watch Company showroom launch on Thursday 14 April. Host for the evening was top male model Sam Wines and guests were treated to Starward Whisky and canapes. Let’s take a look at how the night went down…

The showroom has a rustic feel with exposed wooden beams and black metal accents adding a nice masculine vibe. Nicely mixed with slick modern cabinets to present the timepiece collections.

I’ve been a fan of this brand since I first discovered their watches in 2016, what caught my eye is the fact they’re named after well-known Melbourne locations like Flinders St, Sorrento and Carlton to name a few. Plus, as you’ll see from the photos they’re stunning by design.

There is an interesting backstory, as it all began in 2013 when the brand was established via crowd funding to debut the first watch ‘The Flinders’ and due to the overwhelming response, it then spurred them on to expand with a wider range of designs.

On the night, we had a technician on hand to show us how the watches are pieced together – it’s such a delicate and intricate operation. It will be exciting to see what new releases are next!

The showroom is based in Carlton, book an appointment: www.melbournewatch.com.au/showroom

Trend Report: GQ Menswear Runway

The GQ Australia Fashion Runway. Image: Lucas Dawson Photography

By Laura Rushworth.

The style dial was set to thrill at the GQ Australia Menswear Runway on Friday 17 March.

Set in the majestic Royal Exhibition Building, it was a highlight show as part of the packed schedule for the 2017 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival. Let’s take a look at the key trends you’ll be wearing this autumn and winter.

Style: Jack London. Image: Lucas Dawson Photography

The event kicked off with a dark and broody rock soundtrack evoking a sense of power and mystery.

Taking the runway by storm, Jack London presented an edgy line of grungy leather jackets styled with tartan checkered suits and a collection of dark knits, creating a polished look for the guys.

Style: Dom Bagnato. Image: Lucas Dawson Photography

For the stylish gents, Dom Bagnato lived up to the hype and presented a vision of bold blue suits, illustrating his contemporary classic looks mixed with Italian style. This alluring line oozed charisma and stark sophistication, evident through his remarkable craftsmanship and tailoring.

Style: Calibre. Image: Lucas Dawson Photography

Calibre delivered a collection of their recognisable signature elements, incorporating new contemporary pieces in their Fall/Winter line. Calibre’s premium fashion looks included leather biker jackets, the perfect tailored pants, checkered knits and silver zipped bomber jackets, offering the highest quality casual garments, through to their exquisitely made sharp suits.

Style: Autonomy. Image: Lucas Dawson Photography

Autonomy exposed their quality, superior fits and abiding style on the GQ Runway. Drawing their inspiration from timeless apparel pieces that are everyday essentials for the “IT” man, who seeks durable and long lasting pieces he can treasure. Some of these looks included navy blue jeans styled with a dark knit and trendy bomber jacket for a virile edge.

Style: Arthur Galan AG. Photography: Lucas Dawson Photography

One designer that definitely spoke to the masses, was Arthur Galan’s collection that exuded directional street style and masculinity. His use of camo stood out with his new take of adding gold chunky zip detail on jackets and pants. The explicit skill and use of superior fabrics, definitely set him apart.

This show offered an intriguing vision on macho elegance, capturing viewers through cutting edge style and modern looks on the Runway. VAMFF wrapped up the shows end with an exciting strobe light effect display, exuding a strong finish to an efficacious evening.

What a buzz!

Crossing the Brooklyn Bridge!

I had the time of my life! Just back from New York Fashion Week and I was super impressed. It was my first time in the USA and I found New York to be bigger, brighter and more full of life than I ever imagined. The humidity was a battle each day but it worked wonders for my complexion. I stayed on after NYFW and managed to take in the sights of this vibrant city that has so much to offer. I’ll be posting more about my trip once I get unpacked, but here are a couple of highlights.

I had the absolute pleasure to attend the Vivienne Tam after show party!

New York Fashion Week – here I come!

Look out New York – here I come! I’m heading to New York Fashion Week and will be in the USA from Sat 3 Sept – Sat 23 Sept.

It will be business as usual as I have a team on the ground in Melbourne. Best point of contact will be email. See you on the New York Fashion Week runway!

Pop-up Alert!

Ice-Cream Doughnuts & Craft Beer at The Strand Melbourne, 3 days only! I stopped by opening day to grab some snaps, have a little taste and chat to the people running the show.

150 litres of ice-cream is expected to be served up this weekend to eager foodies ready to get their hands on these beautiful delights. This has to be perfect timing as scorching hot weather is sweeping across the state.

The husband-wife duo behind The City Lane, Paul and Lauren Kristoff have put together this experience of doughnut ice-cream sandwiches and matched craft beers. They will make the toppings and ice-cream from scratch with the doughnuts freshly sourced from Big Lou’s in Fitzroy.

Chatting to Lauren, she says with European backgrounds their lives revolve around food, so it’s great with the pop-ups to share their passion.

“It will be a beautiful way to spend a nice summer day, enjoying the sunshine and chilling with friends,” she says.

Three flavours include; Peanut Butter and Crispy Dark Chocolate, Turkish Delight Cheesecake, and Orange and Cardamom. Matching craft beers have been selected from East Brunswick-based Temple Brewery including the New World Order American Stout, the Rye Hard IPA and the Bicycle Summer Ale.

Taste test: the ice-cream with its creamy texture had a delicious home-made taste and was a hit. Mixed with the topping and doughnut it made the perfect pre-Xmas indulging treat. I have to admit as it was early in the day and if I didn’t have afternoon meetings I would have loved to have washed it down with one of the craft beers as it would have brought a new twist to the overall experience – just another reason to go back over the weekend!

Open 10:30am to 10:30pm from Friday 18 December until Sunday 20 December, in a newly-created space at The Strand Melbourne on Driver Lane in the CBD.

Melbourne Cup 2015

The race that stops a nation sure knows how to put on a show! Melbourne Cup 2015 drew a massive crowd of 101,000 who witnessed a dream come true as Michelle Payne rode Prince of Penzance to become the first female jockey to win the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

The popular Birdcage Enclosure was home to a host of celebrities including international guest of the VRC and Emirates, Lady Kitty Spencer, Lleyton and Bec Hewitt and Ricky Ponting at Swisse, Jennifer Hawkins and Kris Smith in the Myer marquee, and French DJ David Guetta at G.H. Mumm.

I was on roaming reporter duties to capture the vibe, style and people. And boy was it fun, let’s take a look at the action I snapped…
